BLUE MOON

The Luna Blu project of the Women's Justice Center has been carrying out harm reduction and health prevention activities since 2001 with people who engage in street and indoor prostitution in the Ferrara area.
The main objectives are: to encourage the adoption of behaviors and lifestyles aimed at eliminating or reducing risks to individual and collective health and safety; facilitate access to local social and health services; protect the rights of sex workers and combat the social stigma that affects them.
The main project actions include contact with the target through night outings on the streets and phone calls for those who work indoors; individual accompaniments; orientation and listening interviews.
At the same time, individual protection products such as condoms and lubricating gels, comfort items and prophylactic information material are distributed to sex workers.
Upon reporting, action is taken on any coexistence conflicts that may arise between sex workers and citizens residing in the area.
Building relationships of trust with the target promotes recognition and
the expression of needs, greater awareness of oneself, of one's resources and abilities, of one's rights; this with a view to developing paths of autonomy and, when desired, change.
The Luna Blu project is financed annually by the Emilia Romagna Region and the Municipality of Ferrara.
